This study examines the origins and intellectual foundations of pragmatics as an extension of a long-standing scholarly tradition, within which attempts to approximate and interpret texts predate its formal emergence. Pragmatics has since flourished among both Arab and Western scholars. This has prompted us to explore its rich sources while simultaneously addressing its relationship with other linguistic disciplines, such as semantics and linguistics, more broadly. Through this endeavour, we aim to assist the researcher in identifying a clear, accessible path to effective, persuasive, and meaningful communication.
