AJESS Peer Review Guidelines

Introduction

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for contributing to the review process of manuscripts submitted to AJESS. The Academic Journal of Education and Social Sciences (AJESS) is committed to maintaining the quality and integrity of scientific knowledge and has adopted a double-blind peer review model. This guideline is designed to assist you in the review process and ensure the consistency of your evaluations.

Principles of the Peer Review Process

  • Impartiality and Objectivity: Conduct your reviews by focusing on the scientific content of the manuscript, free from personal biases.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of author and reviewer identities. Do not share the manuscript or the review process with third parties.
  • Constructive Feedback: Provide constructive and detailed feedback to authors to help them improve their manuscripts.
  • Ethical Rules: Adhere to ethical rules and scientific integrity in accordance with COPE and ICMJE guidelines.  

Evaluation Criteria

Your evaluation should focus on the following criteria:

  1. Scientific Contribution:
    • Does the manuscript make an original and significant contribution to the relevant field?
    • Do the findings presented in the manuscript offer a new perspective on the existing literature?
    • Is the research question and hypothesis of the manuscript clearly and explicitly stated?
  2. Methodological Accuracy:
    • Are the research methods used valid and reliable?
    • Is the research design and sample selection appropriate?
    • Are the data collection and analysis methods applied correctly?
  3. Presentation of Data and Findings:
    • Are the data presented clearly, understandably, and accurately?
    • Are the findings interpreted in accordance with the research question?
    • Are the results supported by the obtained data?
  4. Compliance with Literature:
    • Does the manuscript adequately cover the relevant literature?
    • Are the sources used correctly and consistently?
    • Have the authors addressed the newest developements in the related field?
  5. Writing and Presentation Quality:
    • Does the manuscript comply with academic writing rules (APA, MLA, etc.)?
    • Is the grammar and expression clear, understandable, and fluent?
    • Does the manuscript have a regular and consistent structure?
  6. Ethical Evaluation:
    • Have you identified any ethical violations (plagiarism, data fabrication, etc.) in the manuscript?
    • Compliance with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) guidelines.  

Evaluation Report

Your evaluation report should include the following elements:

  • General Evaluation: A general evaluation summarizing the strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript.
  • Detailed Feedback: Detailed feedback on each section according to the above criteria.
  • Correction Suggestions: Concrete correction suggestions to help authors improve their manuscripts.
  • Publication Recommendation: A clear recommendation for the manuscript's acceptance, revision, or rejection.

Evaluation Process

  1. After receiving the manuscript, check whether you have sufficient time for the evaluation.
  2. Read the manuscript carefully and evaluate it according to the above criteria.
  3. Prepare your evaluation report in a detailed and constructive manner.
  4. Upload your report to AJESS's online system within the specified time.

Additional Information

  • AJESS applies a double-blind peer review model, so author and reviewer identities will be kept confidential.  
  • If you have any questions during the evaluation process, you can contact the AJESS editors.
  • AJESS will make a decision on the manuscript's acceptance, revision, or rejection based on the reviewers' feedback.
