AI Usage Policy

AJESS (Academic Journal of Education and Social Sciences) promotes the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in academic research. This policy is formulated in accordance with international ethical guidelines such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (2021), and the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (ALLEA, 2023).

1. Transparency and Disclosure Requirement

Authors must clearly state if AI-based tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, Elicit, Scite, etc.) were used during research or writing processes. This should be disclosed in the appropriate section of the manuscript (e.g., “Methods” or “Acknowledgments”), specifying the AI tool used and its purpose (e.g., language editing, data analysis, content suggestions, etc.).

2. Originality and Academic Integrity

  • Authors are responsible for ensuring the scientific accuracy of AI-generated content.

  • AI-generated texts should not be copied verbatim but must be verified with academic sources and scientific validation.

  • Submissions that are entirely or predominantly generated by AI will not be accepted and will be considered an ethical violation.

3. Citation and Source Attribution

  • AI tools are not considered scientific sources and should not be directly cited.

  • Any content generated using AI must be supported by peer-reviewed academic references.

  • Fabricated references or misleading citations will be treated as ethical misconduct.

4. Use of AI in Peer Review and Editorial Processes

  • Reviewers and editors may use AI tools only as an assistive resource.

  • Fully AI-driven decision-making processes in manuscript evaluation are not allowed.

  • If reviewers use AI during the evaluation process, they must disclose this to the editorial board.

5. Data Security and Confidentiality

  • Confidential information (e.g., author identities, manuscript drafts, peer review reports) must not be uploaded to AI tools.

  • All AI usage must comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and relevant international data privacy regulations.

6. Ethical Violations and Sanctions

AJESS applies the following steps in cases of ethical violations related to AI use:

  1. Suspicious Content Review: The editorial board has the right to investigate potentially AI-generated fraudulent content.

  2. Author Notification and Defense Request: If an ethical breach is detected, authors will be asked to provide an explanation.

  3. Enforcement in Line with the Plagiarism Policy: AI-assisted content manipulation will be handled in accordance with AJESS's plagiarism policy.

  4. International Collaboration: If necessary, reports of ethical violations may be shared with relevant academic institutions and international publication ethics committees.

AJESS supports the ethical use of AI in scientific research and encourages its responsible and transparent application to uphold academic integrity.
